Can I view transcripts of legal proceedings in New York?

I have an acquaintance who has been charged with 'grand larceny > 50k' here in New York. I went online, and the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office website gives me the docket number and the court appearance dates. The transcripts of what actually occurs during these court dates- is that a matter of public record? Am I able to view them in some County archive, even if it is for a fee? I am very curious...and while I cooperated with the detectives from the DA's office and gave a statement, they were not able to reveal the details of the case to me. So how do I learn more?
